Coming of Age...

Blinded By The Lights

“Blinded by the Lights” was conceived as one emotional story seen from two different sides.

Two recordings

The same composition, recorded twice. The versions differ in structure and length, not only in voice.

Lyrics — Ilajna's Version

Ooh
Yeah

Everybody's looking
At the lights

You're staring at the skyline, chasing something new
Never saw somebody quietly watching you

Everybody knew your name before you walked inside
I was in the back just smiling with my eyes

You were chasing fireworks lighting up the sky
I was watching every colour dancing in your eyes

I knew you were searching
Though you'd never say
So I kept a little hope
You'd look my way

Rumours came
Rumours went

Everybody had opinions

Still I'd save
A little space

Just in case you'd finally listen
You're blinded by the lights

Every Friday night
Everybody knew your name

I just hoped
One day

You'd remember mine.
Ooh
Blinded by the lights

You were always laughing louder than the room
Trying to outrun a silence I already knew

Every little victory faded with the dawn
Still I'd wait beside you after everyone had gone

You never had to promise
Never had to try

Somehow I could read the questions
Hiding in your eyes

Maybe love

Isn't louder

Than the world outside

Maybe love

Is simply waiting

Patient through the night

Ooh

You're blinded by the lights

Trying to catch forever

In a single night

Everybody knew your name

But I knew your heart

When every light faded

I was there

Right from the start

The fireworks are over

The city's still awake

This time

You finally

Looked my way

Keviv's Version

Lyrics — Keviv's Version

Ooh yeah...
Ooh yeah…
Ooh… Ooh… Yeah…

I’m staring at the ceiling, half past two
Look who we've become, me and you

Trying to play the main character in the halls
But I only text you when my confidence falls

Sneaking out the window, chasing the thrill
Trying to find our place, climbing up the hill

And I know i lose my head when I hang with you
But i love the rush, yeah, the crazy things we do

The rumors pull us down, but we push them away
So go ahead and save your tears for graduation day

I said, ooh, I’m blinded by the flashing screen lights
No, I can't sleep, overthinking every night

We’re running out of time, trying not to fold
You said you’d ride for me, or that's what i was told

Even when we’re miles apart, I’m finding ways to stay
Cause I’m blinded by the lights, and we’ll find our own way

Find our own way... yeah...

So call out my name when you're feeling left behind
I'll put you first, yeah, you're always on my mind

You earned every piece of this loyal heart
We won't let the high school drama tear us apart

I helped you out of that lonely place
Now we're making memories they can't erase

Tell me what you really want, cause I feel it coming
Take my breath away, keep the daydreams running

We’ve been testing the limits, crossing the line
Just a couple of kids running out of time...

Blinded by the lights, standing in this place
Just a dreamer lost in this crowded space

Save your tears, I’ll always ride for you
Up on the bleachers, where the talk is true...

Ooh, yeah
Just call out my name

Story Behind Blinded By The Lights

“Blinded by the Lights” was conceived as one emotional story seen from two different sides. Instead of writing a single song in which one person explains everything, we wanted Keviv and Ilajna to each inhabit their own version of the same world, carrying different thoughts, assumptions and emotions. The two versions are therefore not meant to compete with each other; they complete each other.

In Keviv’s Version, the story lives in that strange space after a moment that should feel triumphant. The game is over, the lights are bright, everyone has seen the performance, and from the outside everything looks exactly as it should. But when the noise disappears, the only thing that seems to matter is the person who was not there. The song moves from the public world of attention, rumours, screens, friends and expectations into a much quieter question: when all of that disappears, who are you actually hoping will call your name? That contrast became central to the song.

Ilajna’s Version looks at the same emotional distance from the other side. Her world has its own lights, its own distractions and its own reasons for silence. What may appear like indifference from one perspective can feel completely different from another. Her version was created to remind the listener that we often understand relationships only through the fragments visible to us. Two people can care deeply, look at the same moment, and still walk away with completely different stories about what happened.

The “lights” in the title gradually became more than literal stadium lights or fireworks. They represent everything that can become louder than what we really feel: attention, social expectations, popularity, digital life, appearances, ego and the stories we create in our own heads. We can be surrounded by light and still fail to see the person standing emotionally closest to us.

That is why we wanted both versions to exist. Keviv’s Version asks the question from one side; Ilajna’s Version reveals that there was always another side to the question. Together, they introduce one of the larger ideas behind Coming of Age…: growing up is not simply learning what you feel. It is learning that other people have inner worlds just as complicated as your own.
