Story Behind Coming of Age...
Coming of Age… began with a simple idea: growing up does not happen once.
We usually associate “coming of age” with adolescence, first love, first heartbreak, first freedom, first mistakes, and the moment we supposedly become adults. But life rarely works that neatly. We keep changing. We keep questioning who we are. We keep shedding old versions of ourselves and becoming new ones.
That is why the title ends with an ellipsis.
Coming of Age…
The story is still continuing.
The album follows Keviv and Ilajna as they move through a world shaped by relationships, social media, ambition, comparison, expectations, loneliness, performance, technology, self-doubt, and the constant pressure to become something recognizable to everyone else.
At the beginning, they are looking outward.
They are trying to understand themselves through the world around them: through other people, through attention, through achievement, through the feed, through what looks successful, desirable, confident, or complete.
For a while, their experiences run alongside each other.
Then they begin to diverge.
Because they are not two versions of the same person.
Keviv and Ilajna respond differently to pressure, solitude, comparison, uncertainty, ambition, and the noise of modern life. Some experiences bring them closer; others reveal how differently they see the world. The album was designed to let those differences exist rather than forcing both voices into the same emotional journey.
That is also why so many of the songs have Keviv’s Version and Ilajna’s Version.
They are not simply alternate vocals.
They are different perspectives.
Sometimes they look at the same moment and understand it differently. Sometimes they arrive at similar feelings through completely different paths. Sometimes their experiences move far apart. And sometimes, after all that distance, they unexpectedly begin to converge again.
That structure became central to the album.
Because growing alongside someone does not mean becoming like them.
It means learning how two separate inner worlds can change, disagree, drift, return, and still remain connected.
As the album progresses, something else starts changing too.
The external world begins to lose some of its authority.
The things that once looked impressive start looking more constructed. The things that once caused insecurity begin to look less reliable as measures of a meaningful life. The characters become increasingly aware of the difference between appearance and reality, between performance and authenticity, between what is loud and what is true.
The album gradually moves from reaction to discernment.
From asking:
What does everyone else think I should be?
toward asking:
What actually matters to me?
And eventually:
What remains when all the noise is removed?
That is where Coming of Age… becomes more than an album about modern adulthood.
Underneath the humour, internet language, relationships, anxiety, ambition, FOMO, and cultural satire is a deeper search for identity.
Not identity as branding.
Not identity as profession.
Not identity as status.
But the much older question:
Who am I, really?
The album does not pretend to answer that question completely.
That would defeat the point.
Instead, it moves gradually from confusion toward recognition.
There are moments of rebellion, moments of exhaustion, moments of vulnerability, moments where the world looks absurd, and moments where something quieter begins to feel more trustworthy than everything shouting for attention.
By the final stretch of the album, the journey becomes increasingly philosophical.
There are subtle traces of ideas that have existed for thousands of years: the distinction between the self and the roles we temporarily inhabit, the possibility that meaning may not always be found through accumulation, and the strange feeling that some truths are not newly discovered at all, but somehow remembered.
Those ideas are deliberately understated.
Coming of Age… is not a spiritual album disguised as pop, nor is it trying to preach a worldview.
It is a contemporary album that allows the questions of modern life to eventually collide with questions much older than modern life.
And somewhere in that collision, Keviv and Ilajna begin rediscovering not only something about themselves, but something about each other.
The album starts in a world full of lights, screens, voices and expectations.
It ends much quieter.
Not because the world has become quiet.
But because they have started learning what deserves to be heard.
That is the heart of Coming of Age….
It is not the story of two people who finally figure life out.
It is the story of two people becoming more conscious of the lives they are actually living.
Learning what to question.
Learning what to let go.
Learning what to keep.
Learning when to laugh at the absurdity of it all.
Learning that the person beside you can experience the same world completely differently.
And perhaps learning that growing up is not about finally becoming someone.
Sometimes it is about slowly removing everything you were told to be, until you can begin to recognize what was there all along.
The ellipsis remains because there is no final version of us waiting at the end.
There is always another question.
Another realization.
Another layer.
Another beginning.
Coming of Age…
because we probably never stop.
